Help Rob help kids in Palestine

Karen | Important | Friday, 31 August 2007

Often we wish we could help someone but don’t know how. Well, I have a blogging friend who just told me about one of his friends. Owen’s friend is going to be cycling from London to Paris for a charitable cause and has launched an appeal to raise some funds. You can read about the project on Owen’s blog. Let’s all donate and help these kids. They don’t deserve to suffer.

We Love Dinosaurs

Karen | news | Friday, 31 August 2007

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana is the fourth oldest and the world’s largest children’s museum. I have been there a few times and it is magnificent. There are hands on projects for kids. The projects teach them about water and dispersment among other things. The water was dispersed onto the floor but hey, they are learning!

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis formally announced the naming of a 66-million-year-old, first-of-its-kind and dragon-like dinosaur in honor of celebrated children’s book author J.K. Rowling. Dinosphere houses one of the largest displays of real juvenile and family dinosaur fossils in the United States.

MyDinoShirts are a collection of cool, quality, dinosaur t-shirt designs for kids and adults. Satisfy your fascination with the dinosaur by wearing one of these beautiful t-shirts. They are pretty classy and have beautiful graphics. I know that your kids will love them.

Bankgkok News

Karen | news | Friday, 31 August 2007

I am always looking for new things in the world of travel. I checked out Bangkok and found the Bangkok Post online! Cool! I thought I was reading a newspaper from the United States. The first article was about our mortgage foreclosures and the one below it was about Standard & Poors President being replaced due to the mortgage failures.

The jobs listed in the classifieds sounded familiar.

1. Station Manager

2. Project Manager

3. Assistant Business Development Director

4. Senior/Engineer, Product Marketing

5. Marketing Manager

No matter where you go, things remain the same. :-)

Memories

Karen | travel | Friday, 31 August 2007

While rummaging around in the box I keep my old stuff in, I found a binder that I used. We kids would use binders of paper to write down what we saw on our trips. It was so much fun to look back and see my handwriting. I think I was about 11 the year we took a trip to South Dakota. We visited Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands. I have a picture of me climbing around the hills of the Badlands. I was wearing knee high socks! LOL We had fun traveling as a family. Mom and Dad may not have thought so at the time. I can remember Dad threatening to wallop us if we didn’t stop arguing. LOL

Why Would You Drink That Stuff?

Karen | news | Friday, 31 August 2007

Drinking sweet tea is one of the oldest and most exceptional Southern traditions. When they mean sweet, they mean sweet. I can’t drink it. It must raise my blood sugar because it is like drinking to get a headache. I wouldn’t do that on purpose.

When southerners come to Indiana and order sweet tea, I will bet that they are disappointed.

The Leaves Turn to Gold

Karen | attractions,travel | Thursday, 30 August 2007

It is almost time to take that road trip to look at fall foilage. In Indiana, many people travel to Brown County during September. The terrain is a bit more hilly than here in the center of the state. That means you have excellent look out points where you can see for great distances. Looking at all the different colors of leaves from that vantage point is breath taking. Lodging varies from comfortable bed and breakfast inns to cabins. There are several hotels in the small town of Brown County. There are also small shops and restaurants to visit during your stay. We stayed at the Brown County Inn a few years ago. We used the jacuzzi which is on the roof. That was fun. We sat in the warm, relaxing water and looked at the stars.

Do the seasons change where you live? Is there a particular place to see the fall foilage?

Massive Spider Web in Texas

Karen | attractions | Thursday, 30 August 2007

Entomologists are debating the origin and rarity of a sprawling spider web that blankets several trees, shrubs and the ground along a 200-yard stretch of trail in a North Texas park. This monster spider web is being spun in Wills Point, Texas and scientists are trying to figure out how and why. They have noticed mosquitos being caught in the web and that is a good thing. It sounds as if this is a rare thing although some scientists say that it happens every few years or so. Spider experts say the web may have been constructed by social cobweb spiders, which work together, or could be the result of a mass dispersal in which the arachnids spin webs to spread out from one another.
Wills Point is about 45 miles east of Dallas.

Austin

Karen | travel | Wednesday, 29 August 2007

Austin, Texas has been voted as one of America’s favorite cities. They have famous people like Lance Armstrong and Willie Nelson. They have a large bat population that fascinates millions of people who come to check them out. Austin has a variety of hills, can’t call them mountains, for sports enthusiasts. The bar and night life isn’t too bad. Barton Springs Pool (2101 Barton Springs Road) is three acres of old-school, spring-fed swimming. Be warned! The water is cold!

Ah! The food in Austin. There are enchiladas and margaritas as well as barbecue that gave barbecue it’s name! You won’t go hungry in Austin.
