After the Hurricane

Karen | news | Wednesday, 29 August 2007

Today marks the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s devastating assault on the states in the south. I’ve been watching the news and a special on Oprah about how things are now in those places. There is still devastation and heartache. People don’t have anyone to help them and others have found lots of help. The levee still has not been repaired in New Orleans. New Orleans crime is the highest it has ever been. Many churches and individuals are still using their resources and time to help.

GPS Tracking

Karen | travel | Tuesday, 28 August 2007

I think most of us agree that GPS tracking has made traveling less of a worry. There are more advantages to car GPS tracking than the voice telling you where to turn. In depth information such as where the vehicle went, where it stopped & how fast it was driven can also be retrieved from a tracking monitor. Real time vehicle tracking devices display a history of exact location, date, time, speed, and direction. This information is helpful to find a stolen vehicle. It can be a deterrent for thieves thinking about stealing your vehicle. GPS tracking is used by freight companies to keep track of their freight trucks. That information is used to get products to companies in an efficient manner. GPS tracking devices allow you to monitor where your teen travels. Individuals and businesses are finding more uses for GPS tracking. Check with RMTracking.com and see with what features the leading GPS tracking devices provider in the United States can help you.

Take Pictures

Karen | news | Tuesday, 28 August 2007

I hope that all of you take pictures when you travel. I think it is important to have a person in each picture. Scenery pictures are ok but after the 50th one it is nice to see a face. Take Great Pictures is a great website for hints on taking great pictures. They also have games to play with your kids that will help them learn to take great pictures.

Buying Arizona Property

Karen | travel | Monday, 27 August 2007

When mom and her sister bought their place in Arizona, they had difficulties right and left. I think it was because the realtor that they dealt with didn’t know what they were doing. Mom and my aunt had to do much of the leg work and if it hadn’t been for the knowledge that mom and my aunt had about selling and buying real estate, some big mistakes might have been made. I wish they had known to deal with Arizona realtors Shirin and Sean Rubek. They are experienced and licensed Arizona Remax realtors who know what to show clients and how to manage the paperwork when they make a sale. If you or someone you know is interested in Arizona property, please tell them to check with Shirin and Sean Rubek. It will be an enjoyable experience.

Map

Karen | travel | Monday, 27 August 2007

My sister, Lynne, has this map on her blog and I thought it would be fun to see how a map of the United States looked if all the states I’d ever been in were shaded a different color. My dad was in the military so every time he got order to a different base, we went on a Road Trip!!! We saw most of the United States with exception of the east coast. I have traveled there to see my daughter as she gets stationed at different bases while in the Coast Guard.

August Give Away

Karen | news | Monday, 27 August 2007

I’m just giving everyone a heads-up, (heads-up? what the heck does that mean?), about Laane’s August give away. The instructions are simple and anyone can participate so get over to Laane’s blog and see what it is all about. You’ll love her blog.

It Is Close

Karen | news | Monday, 27 August 2007

Does anyone know if they still sell scanners where you can hear what is going on with the police and fire department? I wish I had one. I heard a firetruck go by and it sounded as if he stopped in front of my house. There isn’t one out in front but I wonder if it is at one of the neighbors. We have big pine trees that line our yard and they prohibit me from viewing much beyond our front yard. I want to know where the vehicle, that was blaring the siren, is!

Keeping Things Green

Karen | Important | Monday, 27 August 2007

This blog is dedicated to travel. I have been doing research and finding out interesting things about the places I have been and ones that I hope to visit. I am always seeking new information about places all over the world.

I am curious to know if all countries are doing their best to keep our earth green. I wish I knew more about the subject. I found a helpful, user submitted, green news service, that offers both a forum and a blog.

A wonderful example of the types of articles you will find at Grow,  is this one that talks about Action For Animals: A Day At The Zoo. The author is setting an example that we all should follow.

Grow Green News includes stories about vegetarianism and organic gardening. It also has stories from users who are using new techniques to save energy. There are hundreds of articles! Each article has a badge that you can click to say that you liked the article. That makes it fun as you see how many people were interested in something you submitted. Many of the articles have pictures and video that you will enjoy. Check out “Grow” and see if you agree that it is a wonderful site. It is full of information and good ideas. This site would be an excellent resource for school children to learn about the environment.

Fires in Greece

Karen | travel | Monday, 27 August 2007

Greece has been ravaged by hundreds of massive wildfires since Friday that have left at least 61 people dead. The country also suffered fires in June and July, although they were not nearly on the same scale.

Government officials have said they suspect at least some of the blazes have been caused by arson.

A top prosecutor ordered an investigation Monday into whether this summer’s arson attacks in Greek forests could be considered terrorism, the Public Order Ministry said.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out on the fringes of Athens a day after a massive effort prevented the birthplace of the Olympics from being devastated by flames.

When I saw the pictures of the ancient wheels and ruins, the thought that someone would deliberately set fires that could put those relics in harms way made me sick. What thrill does it bring? I don’t understand.
