Relocating Bank Accounts

Karen | Important | Monday, 08 October 2007

One thing about relocation that isn’t always easy is changing your bank accounts. When you need to compare saving accounts there are so many variables that it is hard to compare apples to
apples. It is easy to miss the fine print and then find out you are being charged for something. I found out the hard way that I had to pay a $25 wire transfer fee just to get my savings moved to a new account. If I had known that, I would have taken the money out before I left. Those bank charges must have been explained in the fine print. You can rest assured knowing I checked the fine print when I opened my current accounts.
I recently read where banks have been charging excess default fees on their customers accounts. The government has stepped in, in some instances, and required that those institution should not have charged fees to individual accounts. You might want to check on this at your bank. You might have some money due to you.
