The Indianapolis Colts are playing in one of my favorite cities. Atlanta is a great place to visit and live. We have been to Atlanta often but usually only see the airport. The Atlanta airport is a large hub for many airlines. We have had connecting flights in Atlanta many times. We spent half a day there one year when our flight home from a cruise was delayed. I thought we might get a good comp from the airlines on that fiasco but we didn’t. I hoped we would, at least, get a free hotel room but it wasn’t offered. Oh well. We eventually made it home.
We traveled by car, when we took the speech team our son was involved in, to Atlanta for the National Forensics Meet. We stayed in the dormatories where the Olympic athletes stayed when the Olympic events were held in Atlanta. It was not a hotel and was very limited in amenities. We ate at a local favorite called Merry Macs. That was the first time I’d tasted Pot Stickers or Pot Lickers. I’m not sure what they were called but they were a corn bread and porridge type of dish that was tasty. It was fun to eat there because I felt like we got true southern food in a very relaxed setting. There were pictures of presidents and other dignitaries who had eaten at Merry Macs.
We visited the Margaret Mitchell museum and saw items from Gone With the Wind movie. We had the opportunity to visit the house where Margaret Mitchell wrote her wonderful classic. I can still see the small desk where she penned the many pages of one of my favorite books.
The large city of Atlanta was full of homeless and panhandlers. It was scary at one point when one guy yelled at us. We kept walking and kept our eyes looking forward.
We took an awesome tour of the CNN building. They were conducting a live show that we could see through overlooking windows. We were taken throughout the working areas of the production company and saw the behind the scenes of how shows start and end.
Have you ever visited Atlanta? What was the reason for your visit?
During the winter months, it is nice to travel to warmer climates. St. Augustine is a great place to relax and enjoy some new scenery. You can sit back and read a book or enjoy the fun things there are to do in St. Augustine. Besides being America’s oldest city, it is home to many musicians and artists. Art lovers are in heaven as they visit the galleries of so many talented artists. The St. Augustine Artwalk is a favorite of art lovers. This fun filled event is sponsored by the St. Augustine art galleries and is a fun filled event of which many plan the dates of their vacations to coincide.
The event is one suited for any age. Even the elderly can enjoy the many galleries. Every 30 minutes, First Friday Weekend Art Walk offers sightseeing trains and old town trolleys as an easy way to get around to most of the galleries. I love that! Walking around makes me so tired. By riding the trolley, I can see more and not get worn out before I get my love of art fulfilled.
This year’s artists feature one of my favorites. Peter O’Neill’s oil painting featuring the 911 fireman “Two Minutes of Silence” is one that many have admired over the years since that tragic day when our country was hurt by terrorists. Mr. O’Neill is a very talented artist and the emotion shown in his beautiful paintings is one that I admire.
The fun and exciting festival is something I would love to attend.
I am glad that I did not have to travel this Thanksgiving. I had to go to the doctor yesterday and traffic was already horrible. I am grateful that my sister and her husband decided to brave the traffic and surprised me by coming to our house this morning! I was shocked. My mom knew they were coming and never told me. What a nice surprise!
Grace and Kurby traveled almost 600 miles to come here. How far have you traveled to be with family on a holiday?
I just got home and I am already wishing I could fly the friendly skies again. If I had time to travel, I would check on flights to Wellington, New Zealand. I have never been to New Zealand and have been checking out information on this lovely place. Did you know that Wellington is the capital of New Zealand? It is located in the center of New Zealand. The pictures of it are fabulous. It is lusciously green. Wellington harbour surrounds the lovely city. It looks a beautiful place and I am sure I would have a lovely visit in Wellington.
DialAFlight travel company offers cheap flights to New Zealand so that shouldn’t be a problem if I start saving. The problem is getting the time for a New Zealand holiday. DialAFlight has consultants who are waiting to help me book a wonderful vacation.
When Lynn and I traveled to Las Vegas two weekends ago, we did not have a bit of trouble. There were no delays with our flights and so everything connected without any problem. We arrived without any headaches.
This past weekend, the minute we got to the airport our delays and troubles began. I should say that our troubles began when we took the dogs to the kennel. Brody saw a cat and was so afraid that he did not want to enter the building! I guess he had never seen a cat before. This cat was bigger than him. LOL
Our first flight was delayed and every flight there after took a turn for the worse. Everything worked out but it was a long and tiring day. We arrived at the bed and breakfast after midnight. I felt bad making our hosts deal with late travelers. They were very gracious. I was so glad that we arrived a day early and we did not have to get up at the crack of dawn. We ate a wonderful casserole type breakfast and headed out to see the area. It was a fun day.
I look forward to vacation time because I usually get some much needed exercise. That did not happen this time. I was able to walk a little but I couldn’t walk very fast. I didn’t want Lynn to stress his knee. It is awful when you rely on your body to do your job. It is maddening to him that he has to take such care to insure that his knees are able to work for many more years.
I have been trying to get him to try a product called Freeze It. By incorporating vitamin E, aloe vera and other natural products, Freeze It Gel relieves pain in joints and muscles. My husband hurts daily. If Freeze It Gel were to help him with his pain, it would be a Godsend.
I have been reading all of the success stories on the Freeze It website. I read that it helps with restless leg syndrome and a woman who had suffered for years from the awful pain of fibromyalgia was amazed at how much Freeze It Gel was able to ease her pain. My interest was piqued when I read that a lady with carpel tunnel problems found relief for her pain. I am going to try it the next time I paint. I had given up thinking I could use a paintbrush again. I love to paint and it kills me to pay someone to do it for me. Now I can paint and use Freeze It Gel if my wrists cause me problems. There are so many conditions that Freeze It Gel alleviates or eases the pain that the malady causes. This gel gives me hope.
My husband will be using this product every day. I don’t mind because it doesn’t smell like other gels he has tried. It is important for him to feel good so he can work without pain and so he can walk with me again.
I could never be a taxi driver in Las Vegas. I did not watch when our cab driver wove in and out of cars. Each time we took a cab, it was the same type of driving. In and out of cars they went. The stop and go was so bad that I had my foot on an imaginary brake most of the time!
We usually walk everywhere when we visit Las Vegas but Lynn’s knee has been giving him some trouble. We hoped that some time off of his legs would help them heal. It worked somewhat. He said that they hurt again today but not as bad as they had. Poor guy.
While traveling over the last two weeks, I began taking note of ways to avoid germs. One airport we stopped at had those neat toilets that put a new seat cover on every time the toilet is flushed. I wondered if there was a toilet that could be installed at home that would make personal hygiene an easy task. Going potty with “hands free” cleaning makes everyone feel fresh again.
Once again, the Internet gave me the tool to find a wonderful toilet seat that cleans us up with a spray of warm water. I don’t mean to get too personal but as we age, it becomes harder to control some things. I felt sorry for my aging friend when she had tummy troubles. There were a few times she didn’t make it to the potty in time. It was not an easy feat for her to take a shower each time this unfortunate mishap would happen. She tried as best she could to clean up but it was a frustrating ordeal. I discovered a great idea that would have helped her to not have to endure those embarrassing moments.
You can read all about a new toilet seat at Riverfronttimes.com and see what a great invention the Spaloo toilet seat is! This revolutionary toilet seat called spaloo, makes it easy to be as clean as possible even if you are an older person who finds even the simplest things more difficult than they used to be. Kudos to Spaloo for helping us keep our dignity as we age.
We enjoyed the beautiful trees while traveling through North Carolina and Virginia on Saturday. They are behind our changing of the leaves schedule here in Indiana. Our leaves are on the ground. In North Carolina, they are beautiful reds and yellows.
One of the signs along the road in North Carolina, caught me by surprise. We have deer signs everywhere along our roads. In North Carolina, they have bear signs! Can you imagine seeing a bear! I get excited when I see deer grazing in a field along our route. I would probably pass out if I were to see a bear!
Have any of you Carolinians spotted a bear out in the wild? I just cannot imagine!
We have had a wonderful day checking out the area near the Currituck Lighthouse in North Carolina. I have checked for information on the wild horses that have inhabited the island since the 1500′s. It is interesting to read how the people in the area have rallied in their efforts to protect the horses.
The martial arts enthusiasts in the area hold tournaments which bring in an influx of tourists. ProForce, the leading brand of martial arts sparring gear is often purchased at AWMA. Their commitment to customer service and their huge supply of equipment, are the reasons that they have become one of the top online retailers for martial arts gear and equipment.
From martial arts to beautiful weather, there are many reasons to love North Carolina.
