She Loves Turtles

Karen | Important | Tuesday, 08 January 2008

I have been following the blog postings of a friend that I met through a paid to blog company. Pelf is involved in post-graduate studies and is pursuing her Master of Science degree in Conservation Biology. While studying and working as a research assistant, she became interested in terrapins. In case you are wondering, a terrapin is a turtle.

Pelf talks about research and conservation work that deals with turtles. She has been involved in fund raising and does her best to make the public aware of the plight of turtles.

Her blog, Turtle Talk, is fascinating. I admire Pelf’s dedication and her interest in a creature that needs our help to stay alive and live a healthy life.

I Waited A Day Too Long

Karen | attractions | Saturday, 05 January 2008

quiltfest.jpgDarn it. I wanted to take a class to find out how to improve my machine quilting of quilts. There has to be something I am not doing because my sewing looks good and then all of a sudden it pulls and looks like the tension of my thread is not performing correctly. It is driving me nuts.

The classes I wanted to take at the Mountain Quiltfest are full. I will be prepared next year! The minute the registration opens, I will be clicking to open that website and get signed up. I waited one day and it was one day too late. There are classes available but not the ones I was most interested in taking.

My sister, Grace, and I signed up for a class on making a log cabin quilt with a paper piecing technique. I have always wanted to make a log cabin quilt and I am intrigued by paper piecing. We also signed up for a dinner lecture. Pigeon Forge is a fun place to visit even if there isn’t a quilting event going on. The outlet stores are wonderful. I actually find big savings at their outlet stores, unlike the outlet malls here in the midwest. I don’t know why that is true but it is.

Pigeon Forge is a short drive from Gatlinburg which is also a fun place. The drive through the Smokey Mountains is one that everyone should experience. I hear that it is especially fun when driving a motorcycle. My sister and her husband each drive big Harleys. I don’t know how my sister can reach the ground from hers but she has been riding for many years. I rode a small Honda 600 and had a blast going around curves here in Indiana. I wish I could have made it to the Smokeys with my motorcycle but never did. I’ll be bringing my sewing machine to the Quiltfest. I doubt I could have juggled that on the back of my motorcycle.

A Better Option

Karen | Important | Tuesday, 01 January 2008

I have been going to my favorite blogs and signing up through the email option of receiving their feed. That means whenever my friends update their blog, I will receive an email. I will be updated and not fall behind! I love it! I wish every blog offered the option of subscribing to their feed via email.

Feedburner offers the email option from their website. It is so easy to install and put in a place on your sidebar where readers can easily find the spot. They enter their email address and you have a loyal reader! Please offer this on your website.round-rss-icon.jpg
