Customizing Your Ride

Karen | Important | Tuesday, 25 November 2008

PhotobucketI am not sure how many of you read my blog because I talk about my sister’s motorcycle riding trips and want to hear more about the great places she rides. If so, I thought you might appreciate knowing about a one-stop place to see all of the accessories that are currently available for your ride, and to give you the ability to compare accessories from different manufacturers. CruiserCustomizing is a national cycle accessories website. Bringing the recommendations of cycle riders together in one place makes this website a goldmine for finding the best accessories for your cruiser.

Now, let’s find some more great places to ride!

From the Sky

Karen | attractions,travel | Thursday, 20 November 2008

PhotobucketIs anyone still taking helicopter flights to view the Grand Canyon? There was a time when crashes made the headlines and deterred tourists from considering a flight. I hope the businesses who offer helicopter flights have made flights safer and they are providing many flights to those of us wishing to see the Grand Canyon from the sky.

I looked online and there seem to be so many businesses offering this thrilling way to glimpse one of the greatest wonders of the world. Some companies are based near Boulder City, while others offer flights originating in Las Vegas. (You will save up to two hours travel time since you will not be flying out of Boulder City.) Aerial views along the way include Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and Valley of Fire.

Dedicated in 1935, Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest State Park. It is located only 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park’s attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays.

As you near the canyon you will fly over the Black Mountains which are volcanic in origin and lava flows can be seen. Flights pass the over the Grape Vine Mesa then cross the Grand Wash Cliffs and enter the Grand Canyon.

Prepared for Emergencies

Karen | Important | Sunday, 16 November 2008

As a traveler, you are always in anticipation of the next beautiful view, the best meal and the memories that travel will bring. You should think about the bumps in the road when traveling. There are things to consider when traveling. Take steps to make sure you can get help if needed. We never know when we might get sick or, heaven forbid someone dies, while traveling. There are cases when we need to know what to do in the even of death or illness while traveling.

The US Department of State website lists emergency assistance guidelines for the following situations:

Death or Injury of an American citizen abroad
Arrest/detention of an American citizen abroad
Victims of a crime abroad
American citizens missing abroad
Abduction of a child abroad

Mr. Bluelight and Layaway

Karen | blogging | Thursday, 13 November 2008

PhotobucketIt makes me sad to think about but camping season is finished here in the mid-west. It is finished, unless you are a die hard camper who doesn’t mind camping in the snow. There are people who love to camp in the winter time. Not me. I found the perfect tent system at Kmart but, unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a heater.

Seriously, I am putting my new found tent in layaway and giving it to hubby for Christmas. I am so glad that Kmart is offering layaway again. It is too hard to hide things around my house and Kmart will keep it for me for 8 weeks. While looking for a temporary type bed to have for our Christmas time company, I found the perfect “anywhere bed”. It looks so comfy that it might become a permanent fixture in my guest room. It is easy to set up with its air pump that expands the bed automatically in seconds. It folds down into a compact little box when stored. The bed is advertised as an anywhere bed that is perfect for those of us who like to camp but don’t want to lie on the ground. That would be me. Anyway, while looking around, I found the tent. In fact, I saw that Kmart carries all sorts of camping equipment. They have coolers and sleeping bags too. Using Kmart Layaway means I only have to put down a deposit and make payments for a few weeks. I can have a place to store my gift and make it easier to afford a great tent.

Did you know that the Mr. Bluelight character, made famous by Kmart, is back? I remember being a kid and hearing the announcement about the blue light special happening in a particular aisle. It seemed that everyone rushed to see what was offered. We all knew to look for that flashing blue light because it meant big time savings. Mr. Bluelight is back and making it easier than ever to shop.

You will love what else I found:
• Celebrations by Radko, a unique assortment of boxed glass ornaments exclusively for Kmart. The new collection by Christopher Radko®, the original manufacturer of handmade glass ornaments and holiday collectibles.
• Jaclyn Smith 100-percent cashmere sweaters
• Range of home electronic systems from Samsung, Sony and Panasonic – all at affordable prices
• Wide variety of the popular Joe Boxer apparel for the family, including fleece, loungewear and sleepwear.

Kmart is the place to shop for savings on Christmas gifts and for camping items!

They Look Just Like Us

Karen | blogging | Friday, 07 November 2008

I was dropping entre cards when I visited one of my favorite blogs. News from Nola reminds me of the fun experiences we had in New Orleans and in other parts of Louisiana. Our daughter was stationed in Grand Isle Louisiana. When we visited Stacy, we took the time to check out the beautiful southern states. You can read about a portion of our visit when you read my guest post over at News from Nola. Sara has my post up and I found it this morning. I looked at the picture in the post and thought, wow that couple looks just like us! LOL I hope you will check it out!

Scenic Views in Indiana

Karen | attractions | Wednesday, 05 November 2008

PhotobucketOne of my most favorite times of the year is fall. When you live in the midwest, you get to experience all four seasons. The only bad thing about fall is that it leads to winter, which I detest. Thinking of fall though, is a pleasant experience. We have several places in southern Indiana where the cars line up bumper to bumper so their occupants can experience the exhilaration of color. The winding roads of southern Indiana bring us to the tops of vistas with breathtaking views. One must be careful and watch for deer because the hunters are out and the deer become startled. It is common to see deer running with their breath coming out their nostrils like a fog. Hikers with their Lowe alpine rucksacks often come across the signs of deer as they travel along the many trails around Brown County and Turkey Run.

Horseback riding is another way to see the beautiful color that fall offers. Opportunities to ride on horseback are often favored by tourists wishing to see back country not trampled and filled with signs of the public. Bird watching is another favored activity this time of year. Those who enjoy sketching and photographing birds appreciate the opportunity for a glimpse of a rare bird.

Fall in Indiana brings cooler temperatures that invite us all to get out and stretch our legs. The humidity in the summer makes us hide indoors where we constantly run our air conditioners. There are hills to be hiked, trails to be walked along, horses to be ridden into woods filled with color and scent.

Excuse for a Road Trip

Karen | travel | Wednesday, 05 November 2008

I decided that I had a mission and that was to visit a quilt shop. The Rossville quilt shop’s owner had been to our guild meeting and was such a fun speaker that I had to check out her shop. It was a gorgeous day for a road trip. Mom and I stopped by the orchard on the way home and I bought some apples to make apple crisp.

No Coffee for Voters Here

Karen | news | Tuesday, 04 November 2008

I will be so glad when the voting is finished. We live next door to a voting location and you would not believe how many people have turned down our driveway by mistake. My poor dogs are wondering who all these people are and why are they driving these noisy cars. Many of these people are in dire need of a good auto parts store like Great Auto Parts.com. They have everything you could ever need to fix up your car and make it purr. Maybe a quiet car would be less intrusive on my poor puppy’s ears. Great Auto Parts.com has an easy to use catalog that makes it simple to get the supplies needed to make a car run better. Come on people, with Great Auto Parts.com offering low priced auto parts that come with a full warranty, there is no reason to drive a car that sounds like it is on death’s door.
