From the Sky
Is anyone still taking helicopter flights to view the Grand Canyon? There was a time when crashes made the headlines and deterred tourists from considering a flight. I hope the businesses who offer helicopter flights have made flights safer and they are providing many flights to those of us wishing to see the Grand Canyon from the sky.
I looked online and there seem to be so many businesses offering this thrilling way to glimpse one of the greatest wonders of the world. Some companies are based near Boulder City, while others offer flights originating in Las Vegas. (You will save up to two hours travel time since you will not be flying out of Boulder City.) Aerial views along the way include Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and Valley of Fire.
Dedicated in 1935, Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest State Park. It is located only 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park’s attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays.
As you near the canyon you will fly over the Black Mountains which are volcanic in origin and lava flows can be seen. Flights pass the over the Grape Vine Mesa then cross the Grand Wash Cliffs and enter the Grand Canyon.

That is one place I’ve yet to see. I’ve heard of donkey rides down along the edge to the Snake River, don’t think I would want to do that. I never heard of airplane crashes, but heard of quite a few donkeys and tourists didn’t finish the trip. I don’t have much faith in donkeys! lol

I was able to view the Grand Canyon from the sky a decade ago and it was an awesome experience. But for me, it is equally exciting with the Grand Canyon tour via jeep or hummer because setting your feet to its ground is priceless.

I hope one day to see the Grand Canyon. My inlaws live in Utah and we’re planning on a visit there in the next two years, after my daughter’s wedding LOL.
I agree, I think I would be so in awe of being in the air that I wouldn’t be able to take it all in. A jeep ride would be terrific. The mule rides can be for someone else. LOL
So much to do, after the wedding. LOL
I had the great experience of taking a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and it was one of the most spectacular events of my life, it is absolutely awesome, do not miss out on it. The helicopter has a glass bottom and it is wonderfull when you fly over the edge of the cliff and fall away into the valley, can’t describe the feeling!

I have only even seen to the Grand Canyon by bus
the last time I was in the US (Las Vegas) I was going to take the helicopter flight but unfortunately the casino’s spoiled it for me.
I barely left Vegas with the clothes I arrived in, skinned alive.

It´s definately somewhere I would like to visit, although I had sort of forgotten about it until I read your post.. I don´t think it is as popular as it used to be. I don´t know if I could do the helicopter ride……… Can you ride on horseback through part of it? That might be fun!!

That would be such a delight to see the top of the Grand Canyon on a helicopter! Although I have a trauma for heights, I would definitely conquer it just to have a peek of the best magnificent wonders of the world.
