Memphre, Sea Serpent of Lake Memphremagog

From the Sea Serpent.

Discover Memphre, Sea Serpent, Lake Memphremagog. The legendary, friendly and playful sea serpent of the international waters of Lake Memphremagog of Vermont/Canada.

Newport, Vermont – USA home of Memphre lies at the head of the lake where the legend of a sea serpent inhabits the international waters as early as 1816 to present time.

Barbara Malloy, Vermont’s 1st lady Dracontologist from Newport, Vermont has for the past twenty-two years been researching and documenting “eyewitnesses” encounters of Memphre, Sea Serpent of Lake Memphremagog and Memphre’s other kin-folks in others lakes here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

The International Dracontology Society of Lake Memphremagog© and its copyrights archives hold many sightings of Memphre confirmed by reputable observers, interviewed and documented by Malloy over the years.

This view is where Barbara Malloy, dracontologist and her two daughters had their first sighting of Memphre near Horseneck Island on August 12, 1989 at 5:00 pm.

The history of Memphre is fascinating and very interesting. I had no idea that Vermont was known for its many legends. You can find more information about such creatures at Vermont Living.

Girl Scout Cookie Time!

Karen | news | Tuesday, 10 February 2009

Girl Scout cookiesEveryone’s craving comfort food these days to help lessen the pain of these tough times, so it’s good to know that Girl Scouts are now taking orders for America’s favorite cookies. I bought two boxes of thin mints from a big eyed little girl at church on Sunday. I promptly gave my mother in-law one box.

In case you are wondering, it is safe to eat the peanut butter cookies sold by the Girl Scouts. Neither of the two licensed bakers affiliated with Girl Scout® Cookies, ABC Interbake or Little Brownie Bakers, source their peanut butter from the supplier involved in the current peanut butter warning.

All ingredients used in Girl Scout Cookies are regularly inspected to ensure they are safe for consumption.

Valentine’s Day Celebration in Branson

Karen | travel | Tuesday, 03 February 2009

I am so tired of snow and ice! I would really love to get out of here and have some fun. My ideal Valentine’s Day present would be a leisurely trip to Branson, Missouri. They offer a fun Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel Package. I have been looking over the website and see that they have a spa. Oh my. That would be my idea of heaven on earth. The Hilton Branson Convention Center and the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing offer so many things to do that I might even consider winter to be not so bad after all.

I always enjoy the shows when visiting Branson and there are so many other things to do too! I would love to visit the Titanic Museum Attraction which is showcased in Branson right now. It is included in a special Valentine’s Day package! Also included is a $50 food and beverage credit redeemable at any of the hotel’s food and beverage outlets. To make this trip a special one for you and your special someone, they are offering a special vow renewal ceremony at the base of the Grand Staircase, a box of chocolates and a Heart of the Ocean replica necklace. Isn’t that special?! The price is affordable, starting at $209.00 per couple. Check out the website for restrictions and details on this and other available packages.

I can see myself and my husband enjoying a trip to Branson. Let’s see…sleep in, eat a wonderful breakfast without having to do the dishes…get a massage…naptime…dress for vow renewal ceremony…enjoy a show. Ahhhh….

Renting a Car at Your Destination

Karen | travel | Monday, 02 February 2009

PhotobucketI have been wondering something about rental cars. Perhaps you know the answer. When you rent a car, are you covered by your personal auto insurance? I need to check on the answer before we fly at the end of this month. I suppose that every insurance provider is different. I do not know. I suggest that you check your own insurance and READ the FINE PRINT on your policy and the card terms & conditions, so that there are no surprises.

I did a little research and came up with a few points to ponder concerning rental cars. Be careful about using your company’s contract number with a car rental. Often, your company’s contract ID is meant for business rentals and will include insurance coverage which may duplicate what you already have with your personal insurance.

Most Amex cards, and Visa/MasterCards (gold/platinum level) should include secondary insurance. Business MasterCard and Diners Club cards include primary car rental insurance.

I recommend checking with ebates.com before traveling. Their Enterprise coupon gives you a Free Upgrade On Your Next Airport Rental With Enterprise Rent-A-Car! They also offer 50% Off Weekend Rentals at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Check the Ebates website for details.
